After the death sentence of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted in a public uprising on August 5 last year, the houses of Parameswardi UP Chairman Awami League leader A. Mannan Matubbar and his brother, Ward No. 1 Awami League President Siddique Matubbar, in Boalmari Upazila of Faridpur have been attacked and vandalized for the second time.
A visit to the house on Tuesday afternoon revealed that the L-system full-wall tinset house of his younger brother Siddique Matubbar, next to the residence of Parameswardi Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Mannan Molla adjacent to Moyendia Bazar, had been vandalized in almost all parts. All kinds of furniture in the house were also broken and destroyed. In addition, some parts of the front wall at the main gate of Chairman Mannan Molla's one-story building were demolished. Earlier, it was reported that the attack on the houses of the UP chairman and his brother took place in the second phase after a joyous procession after the International Crimes Tribunal ordered Sheikh Hasina to die on Monday evening. According to local sources, a joyous procession was taken out in Moyendia Bazar in Parameswardi Union of Boalmari Upazila after Sheikh Hasina's verdict was announced. The procession went around different parts of the market and in the evening, first attacked Siddique Matubbar's house and then Mannan Matubbar's house in the area adjacent to the market, causing extensive vandalism. During the attack on Mannan Matubbar's house, some policemen from the nearby Daharnagar Outpost police arrived at the scene, but the attackers left.
Siddique Matubbar complained that relatives of Abul Kalam Azad alias Bachchu, a resident of Barakhardia village in Jadunandi Union of Saltha Upazila, a fugitive accused convicted of crimes against humanity, and supporters of Mahbub Hasan Sajib, a resident of Moyendia Bazar area, participated in the attack. He said, "My brother, UP Chairman Mannan Matubbar, was a witness in the case of Abul Kalam Azad, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. It is because of this that Azad's son and relatives attacked and vandalized the houses of our two brothers on Monday in the name of a joyous procession after Sheikh Hasina's verdict. Since August 5, we, the members of the two families, have been out of our homes for a long time. He also said, "Mahabub Hasan Sajib, a businessman from Moyendia area, has come to our house on Tuesday morning and has forbidden the people around our house to tell anyone about this incident." However, denying this allegation, Abul Kalam Azad's son Masum Billah alias Jihad said that he has been staying in Dhaka for more than a week. He said, "Mannan Matubbar is not the only one who has testified against my father, many others have testified. We know that they did not give this testimony on their own, they were forced to do so. However, our family's relationship with any witness is not bad. Whenever anything happens in this area, we are implicated." It is known that after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, the first round of attack, vandalism, arson and looting took place on the house of Mannan Matubbar and his brother Siddique Matubbar on the morning of October 17 of that year. In this incident, a case was filed at Boalmari Police Station accusing the sons and relatives of Abul Kalam Azad, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. After the attack, Mannan Matubbar and Siddique Matubbar left the area. Even there are no male members except two or four female members in their house. 11 months after the attack, the second round of attack, vandalism and arson occurred yesterday, Monday, after the verdict of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Businessman Md. Mahbub Hasan Sajib, president of Moendia Bazar Samity, said that on Monday afternoon, he went to a village in the neighboring Saltha upazila for a work with army and police members. When I returned to the market at around 8:30 pm, I learned that the house of Mannan Matubbar and Siddique Matubbar had been attacked. He does not know who or what did this. Sub-Inspector (SI) Al Amin, the officer-in-charge of the Dahar Nagar Police Investigation Center, said that he was in the Bhanga area on additional duty. However, he asked to talk to the OC of Boalmari Police Station if any such incident occurred.
Mahmudul Hasan, the in-charge (OC) of Boalmari Police Station, said that if any incident of vandalism occurred in the Moyendiya area of Parameswardi Union last Monday, the Dahar Nagar Fari Police Investigation Center will definitely take action. However, no one has filed a complaint with the police station in this regard.
