On Eid-ul-Fitr, RAB-7 Chattogram distributed gifts to 127 former pirates who surrendered and discussed their rehabilitation progress. The event took place at the Elite Hall of RAB-7 in Patenga on Wednesday, March 18.
RAB-7 Commander Lt. Col. Md. Hafizur Rahman said the force is working to reintegrate long-active pirates from the South Bay of Bengal into normal life. Of the 127 former pirates, 77 surrendered in 2018 and 2020, and 50 surrendered in 2024.
Since their surrender, financial support, incentives, and opportunities for social reintegration have been provided. Former pirates from Maheshkhali, Kutubdia, Banshkhali, and Pekua participated in the program.
RAB referred to them as “adventurers on the path of light”. Gifts were distributed, and participants shared experiences and challenges of returning to normal life.
