Engineers and technicians from Bangladesh and Japan have begun the process of installing a replacement bearing pad for the metro rail at Farmgate, Dhaka, after an original pad fell off earlier today.
According to an official from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the installation work started around 3 PM, shortly after the incident occurred. Engineers and technicians are currently on-site, using cranes to put the new pad in place.
The metro rail authorities resumed partial services on the Motijheel-Shahbagh section at 7:15 PM on Sunday, following a suspension of approximately seven hours. The decision was made to alleviate passengers' sufferings.
Officials from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) also confirmed the restoration of the Motijheel-Shahbagh service. The services on the Uttara-Agargaon section were already restored earlier in the day. The suspension of service was due to an earlier accident at Farmgate, where a bearing pad fell, tragically killing a pedestrian.
Metro authorities noted that experts are currently working to reinstall the replacement bearing pad in the Farmgate area.
The incident, which happened at approximately 12:20 PM, tragically resulted in the death of a pedestrian when the falling bearing pad struck him.
