The Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) chapter of the Bangladesh Young Column Writers Forum has formed a new committee for the 2026-27 term with Md Iqbal Hossain and Tahmina Akter Mim named president and general secretary, respectively.

Iqbal, a student of the Department of Film and Media Studies, and Mim, a student of the Department of Public Administration and Governance Studies, are both from the 2023-24 academic session.

The appointments were announced in a press release signed by the forum’s central President Ruhul Amin and General Secretary Saisha Sultana Sadia on Monday.

According to the release, the newly appointed president and general secretary have been asked to form the full committee of the university chapter within seven working days in line with the organisation’s constitution and submit it to the central office.

Speaking after his appointment, Iqbal said he was grateful to the central committee for entrusting him with the responsibility. “I see this responsibility as a commitment. My goal is to make the chapter’s activities more effective by working with everyone” he said.

He said he would focus on encouraging promising young writers, creating a supportive environment for writing and introducing new activities to the chapter.

“I want to carry out the organisation’s activities with responsibility and professionalism” he added.

Mim said she wanted to turn the chapter into a more active platform for young writers through regular writing sessions, reading circles, discussions, workshops, publications and other creative activities.

“The success of an organisation cannot be achieved through the efforts of a single person. The views, efforts and participation of every member are equally important” she said.

She also pledged to work with all members and give importance to their suggestions while carrying out her responsibilities.

The Bangladesh Young Column Writers Forum is a national platform for young writers, thinkers and opinion-makers. The organisation works to promote writing, analytical thinking and social responsibility among young people.

It also organises seminars, workshops, discussions, training programmes and publications aimed at developing the skills of emerging columnists and providing them with opportunities to showcase their work at the national level.
