The United States has launched "Operation Economic Outcast" a sweeping financial campaign aimed at completely severing Iran’s remaining economic lifelines. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the unprecedented sanctions on Monday targeting Tehran's aviation, shipping, gold, technology and digital asset sectors.

Describing the policy as the "economic asphyxiation" of the regime, Bessent warned that any global entity continuing to do business with Tehran risks being permanently excluded from the US dollar system. The Treasury blacklisted over 60 individuals, vessels and entities worldwide. While the US stopped short of immediately sanctioning Chinese financial institutions, Bessent emphasized that countries have a "defined timeline" to comply that noting the UAE has already halted financial transactions with Tehran under US pressure.

This financial offensive follows a devastating six-month conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran. The war has severely degraded Iran’s conventional military and resulted in the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, Tehran retains substantial drone and missile capabilities and continuing to disrupt global shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf.

In response to the US measures, Iranian Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh declared the country fully prepared for the "economic terrorist attack" warning that Iran's defense would now be proactive. Simultaneously, Iran issued fresh threats regarding the vital Strait of Hormuz also warning international shipping against unauthorized transit and threatening retaliation against 45 specific vessels.

While global oil prices fell slightly on Monday the energy markets remain highly volatile as Washington attempts to leverage its economic dominance to force a definitive end to the Iranian threat.
