


State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said five local government elections will be held in the current fiscal year with Taka 6,000 crore allocated for the process.
He shared the update after a meeting with Danish Ambassador Christian Brix Møller at the Secretariat who also met LGRD Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan. A meeting with the Election Commission will be held next week subject to the Prime Minister's approval to finalise election-related matters. Shahe Alam said the EC will set the schedule and dates followed by a ministry briefing.
The main focus of Tuesday's meeting was Denmark's support for water supply management in Dhaka. Denmark will help fund the third phase of the Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant also contributing Taka 4,500 crore of the project's total Taka 16,000 crore cost.
Of Denmark's contribution Taka 1,500 crore will be a grant, while the government will repay the remaining Taka 3,000 crore over 20 years. Once completed the project will enable treatment of 95 crore litres of water from the Meghna River.
Denmark will also provide Taka 100 crore in support for Rohingya refugees, the state minister added.
