No Legal Violation in Appointment of State Minister Humayun Kabir: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said there was no violation of law in the appointment of Foreign Affairs State Minister Humayun Kabir.

The minister made the remarks in response to questions from journalists after attending an event at the Ministry of Social Welfare on Tuesday (August 25).

Several media reports have claimed that newly appointed State Minister Humayun Kabir holds British citizenship. Asked about the matter, Law Minister Asaduzzaman said Kabir had relinquished his dual citizenship before being appointed as a state minister.

He said Humayun Kabir was appointed in accordance with the Constitution and that there had been no legal violation in the process.

Humayun Kabir faced similar questions from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (August 24), his first working day as state minister. However, he did not clarify the matter and instead asked which media outlets had reported that he held British citizenship.

Kabir took oath as a state minister on Friday (August 21). He had previously served as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs. Following his swearing-in, he was appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
