Current Crisis Is Not Ours; It Was Created by the Fallen Government: Liberation War Affairs Minister

Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan MP has said the crisis currently facing the country was not created by the present government but was left behind by what he described as an 18-year-long fascist regime.

“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is making every possible effort to overcome this crisis. InshaAllah, we will overcome it very soon,” he said.

The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at an exchange meeting on improving the quality of education at Basail Pilot Girls’ High School in Tangail on Tuesday (August 25).

Ahmed Azam Khan alleged that the quality of education in the country had deteriorated significantly over the past 18 years.

“We know that if you want to destroy a nation, the first thing you have to destroy is its education. The Hasina regime did exactly that,” he said.

He claimed that when a country is not run on the basis of merit and the quality of education declines, drug abuse and widespread corruption increase, making it easier to exploit and loot the country.

The minister said the government was now focusing not only on improving education but also on addressing the country’s economic difficulties.

Referring to problems with electricity and gas supplies, he questioned why Bangladesh, which once had abundant gas resources, was now facing shortages.

He blamed the previous regime for what he described as the destruction of the country’s energy sector and alleged that resources allocated for electricity were misappropriated.

He also alleged that gas exploration had not received adequate attention and that the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) had been weakened.

According to the minister, the elected democratic government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is now taking steps to increase gas extraction and rapidly expand electricity generation.

The meeting was chaired by Jahangir Hossain, chairman of Basail Pilot Girls’ High School, and moderated by parent representative Shafiqul Islam Lotus.
