Elderly Man Dies in Phulbari Bus Accident, Road Blocked by Locals

Abdul Gani Sarkar Turu, 65, was killed in a bus accident at Barkona intersection on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Phulbari municipality around 12:30 pm on Wednesday.

According to locals, a speeding Dhaka-bound bus hit Turu as he was crossing the road after returning from Phulbari market. He died on the spot.

Following the accident, angry villagers blocked the road, halting traffic in both directions for over an hour and trapping more than 100 vehicles. They claimed that at least 10 pedestrians have died at the same spot in recent years.

The blockade was lifted after Upazila BNP President Khurshid Alam Moti assured the villagers that he would urge the administration to install speed breakers quickly. Leaders of local political and social organizations, along with police officials, were present during the discussion.
