A passenger bus named Ekushey Express overturned in Syedpur, Burichong upazila, Comilla on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 11 pm on Wednesday, March 18. Ten people were injured, including the driver, and two are in serious condition.
The accident occurred amid heavy rain and strong winds, which made the road slippery. The bus, traveling from Dhaka to Noakhali, lost control and fell onto a road divider. The injured were taken to Moynamati Eastern Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The fire service and police recovered the bus, while traffic congestion extended over five kilometres. Several vehicles moving in the opposite direction worsened the situation. Officer-in-Charge of Moynamati Highway Police Station, Abdul Momin, confirmed no deaths occurred and said the driver lost control despite initially driving safely.
Authorities are working to restore normal traffic and have begun legal proceedings regarding the incident.
