The Home Adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, announced today that the government plans to reduce the maximum number of mobile SIM cards a person can register under a single National Identity Card (NID) ahead of the upcoming national elections.

The current limit of 15 SIMs per NID will be cut to 10 after the current month, with further reductions expected before the election takes place. This measure is being implemented to combat crime and enhance security, as many offenses are committed using SIM cards registered in other people's names, hindering the tracing of actual perpetrators.

Speaking after the 15th Advisory Council Committee meeting on Law and Order, the Home Adviser also addressed pre-election concerns, stating there have been no objections from political parties regarding a "level playing field." He assured that the government is dedicated to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections and that all recent recruitment and postings in law enforcement have been handled with transparency.
