Objective Journalism Vital for Society: NU Vice-Chancellor

Responsible objective journalism is essential for society’s progress stated National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. ASM Amanullah. Speaking at the orientation for the Press Institute of Bangladesh's (PIB) "Three-Month Certificate Course on Mass Media 2026" on Saturday he emphasized that media acts as a core foundation of democracy.

Dr. Amanullah highlighted the growing challenge of maintaining accuracy amid rampant misinformation and AI advancements. He stressed that journalists must prioritize fact-checking and pursue regular training. “Journalism is not just a profession it is a social commitment” he noted warning that false rumors can instantly destabilize society.

Transitioning to NU's academic reforms the Vice-Chancellor announced a major commitment: all university session jams will be completely eliminated by June 2027. He outlined ongoing initiatives to modernize the traditional syllabus introduce world-class skill-based courses and partner with global institutions. These steps aim to prepare students for the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions.

To foster holistic student development NU is also implementing a "Learning with Happiness" program and establishing a Performing Arts College to nurture creativity and leadership.

During the event PIB Director General Farooq Wasif commended Dr. Amanullah’s dynamic leadership. He noted that the VC’s immediate interventions successfully resolved a seven-year session jam at PIB praising his relentless efforts to elevate Bangladesh's overall education standards. The ceremony was moderated by PIB Associate Professor Monira Sharmin and attended by trainee journalists and senior officials.
