Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has gifted a CNG auto-rickshaw to Sheikh Azizur Rahman a student injured during the July Uprising to help support his family’s livelihood. The Prime Minister officially handed over the vehicle on Saturday at his Tejgaon office.

Azizur, a second-year social work student at Mirpur Bangla College, was hit by 36 pellets while participating in the July Uprising at Mirpur-10. During the protests, he notably hoisted the national flag atop the Mirpur-10 flyover. Originally from Lohagara, Narail, he currently lives in Mirpur and balances his studies with his responsibilities on the local Chhatra Dal convening committee.

During the handover the Prime Minister spoke with Azizur and his father, inquiring about his physical recovery and family situation. He strongly advised Azizur to ensure his education continues alongside his work emphasizing that there is no substitute for academic studies.

The initiative stems from a July 25 media report highlighting Azizur’s wish to present the flag he had flown on the flyover to the Prime Minister. Following the report, the Prime Minister’s Office contacted Azizur. He subsequently met with the Prime Minister on July 30 to hand over the blood-stained flag leading to Saturday’s gift.

BNP MP Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh Shibli and Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon attended the event.
