Towhid Hridoy struck a magnificent maiden Test century to anchor Bangladesh’s fightback against West Indies on the third morning of the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Resuming on 29 overnight, the 24-year-old middle-order batter showed immense composure as wickets fell around him. Hridoy reached his hundred off 171 balls striking 11 boundaries and a six taking Bangladesh to 205-7 at lunch on Saturday with trailing West Indies' first-innings total of 356 by 151 runs.
Bangladesh started the day at 88-3. Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim (34) built a crucial 73-run fourth-wicket stand before spinner Jomel Warrican broke the partnership and having Mushfiqur caught at short cover.
Warrican continued to press the Tigers, removing Litton Das (8) and later Hasan Mahmud (1) while Roston Chase dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz (16). Despite losing four partners in the session and playing without injured opener Shadman Islam but Hridoy remained resolute to achieve his milestone just before the interval.
Hridoy went into the lunch break unbeaten on 100 alongside Taijul Islam (1*). Earlier in the match West Indies posted 356 courtesy of Amir Jangoo's 133, while pacer Hasan Mahmud claimed 6-90 for the hosts. West Indies currently lead the two-match series 1-0.
