Following significant Republican losses in the US midterm elections the President Donald Trump faces critical decisions regarding his administration's eight-month conflict with Iran.
Trump had previously threatened to resume full-scale bombardment if Tehran refused to accept settlement terms before the elections. However Donald Trump insisted that the election outcome would not influence his foreign policy calculations.
The midterms saw Democrats secure a clear majority in Congress, winning at least 54 seats in the 100-member Senate with narrow races in Alaska and Mississippi still being finalized. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer vowed that his party would use its majority to block conservative judicial appointments and scrutinize presidential Cabinet nominees.
In response to the midterm setback Trump replaced White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles with senior adviser Stephen Miller as part of a broader administration shake-up.
