Teachers at Megchami Adarsha School and College in Madhukhali upazila have been issued show-cause notices following a 100% failure rate in the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations for the third consecutive year.
All four Humanities students from the institution failed the exams despite nine teachers remaining on the college payroll. The institution previously recorded zero pass rates in 2024 and 2025. Similarly both students who appeared from Arpara Kazi Sirajul Islam School and College in the same upazila also failed.
The widespread failure has drawn severe criticism from local residents and parents who cited extreme administrative negligence.
Megchami Adarsha Headmaster Jahangir Alam Mridha blamed staffing shortages, stating two teachers had stopped attending and the institution lacked educators for English and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
However, Upazila Secondary Education Officer A. Awal Akon disputed the claims after an on-site inspection on November 3. He revealed that while two teachers had left for other jobs remaining seven failed to conduct classes altogether.
Official show-cause notices were served to the non-performing teachers on November 4 with authorities confirming that legal action will follow upon receiving their explanations. Reports indicate that the college section of Megchami Adarsha School and College now faces closure due to continuous non-performance.
