The government has officially renamed five Bangladesh Coast Guard vessels with replacing the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ and the names of four historic national leaders with those of fallen Bangladesh Navy officers.
According to an order issued by the Home Ministry on Thursday, the decision received approval from the "appropriate authority."
The original names which honored key national figures Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, M Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman have been updated to honor Navy officers who sacrificed their lives during domestic and international operations. Additionally, the vessel BCGS Joy Bangla has been renamed BCGS Adomyo Bangla.
The updated vessel names are:
• BCGS Joy Bangla to BCGS Adomyo Bangla
• BCGS Syed Nazrul to BCGS Firoz Kabir
• BCGS Tajuddin to BCGS Nurul Islam
• BCGS Mansur Ali to BCGS M Humayun Kabir
• BCGS Kamruzzaman to BCGS Ashraf Siddiqui
The revised nomenclature takes immediate effect across official records.
