Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has warned that Bangladesh will deliver a tough response to any conspiracy against the country, saying conspiracies are being hatched again.
He made the remarks on Saturday afternoon, November 7, at the inaugural ceremony of the BNP's “Sovereignty Procession” in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
“We want to deliver a crushing response once again, as we did in 1971, in 1990 and on November 7, 1975. Let today's November 7 revolutionary procession be the day we fulfil that expectation. Let this rally be a day to protect Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty,” the prime minister said.
He added that the occasion should also be a day to protect democracy, which he said the people of Bangladesh established by sacrificing their lives on August 5, 2024.
Seeking support from party leaders and activists, Tarique Rahman asked, “Are you with us?”
Party leaders, activists and supporters responded with repeated applause.
He then called on people committed to democracy across Bangladesh to unite against any conspiracy, whether originating inside or outside the country.
“Let us unite all democratic people of Bangladesh and respond together to any conspiracy, whether it comes from within the country or from outside. No conspiracy will be able to suppress the people,” he said.
Describing the significance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, the prime minister said November 7 was a day of national unity, a day to protect Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty, and a day for the people's freedom of speech.
Tarique Rahman arrived at a temporary stage in front of the BNP's central office in Nayapaltan at 3pm, before the programme began.
BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed and A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain were present on the stage, along with Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
