Customs Intelligence officials seized 1,300 units of prohibited "Fresh & White Beauty Cream" from a passenger at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Saturday.
Weighing 40 kilograms in total the confiscated cosmetics have an estimated market value of Tk.8 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate deployed team members across key terminal areas. The illegal items were discovered during a luggage scan of a passenger identified as Mohammad Jahed arrived from Dubai aboard Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-148.
Authorities stated that importing these unauthorized cosmetic products violates the national import policy. Officials highlighted that such unregulated items pose severe health hazards to consumers due to harmful chemical compounds often found in illegal skin-lightening products.
Customs Intelligence reiterated its commitment to protecting public health, emphasizing that heightened airport surveillance and counter-smuggling operations will continue to prevent unsafe products from entering local markets.
