A Dhaka court has ordered Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, arrested as a suspect in the murder case over the death of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahshif Sauri, to be sent to jail after the completion of his remand.
On Saturday, November 7, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam rejected Dip's bail petition and ordered his detention in jail.
Dip was produced before the court after 10 days of remand granted in three separate phases. The investigation officer, Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Tongi River Police Outpost in Gazipur, sought an order to keep him in jail until the investigation is completed.
Defence lawyer Mutasim Billah argued for Dip's bail. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the petition and ordered that he be sent to jail.
Regarding the interrogation, River Police said Dip had provided several important pieces of information about the incident. These are being kept confidential and verified for the sake of the investigation.
Police also said Dip was highly evasive during questioning, tactfully avoiding answers to several questions and remaining silent at times.
Tahshif went missing after leaving home on the evening of October 27 in response to a call from Dip, a junior friend. His body was recovered by River Police from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River the following afternoon.
Tahshif's father, K.M. Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified individuals at Uttarkhan Police Station in Dhaka on the night of October 30. Police later showed Dip as a suspect in the case.
On October 31, the court initially granted four days of remand for Dip. A second remand of three days was granted on November 3, followed by another three days on November 5.
Another accused in the case, Jerika Tasnim Disha, was granted four days of remand on November 1 and a further three days on November 4. She is currently in jail.
According to the case statement, Tahshif Sauri, also identified as K.M. Tahshif, left home shortly after 6pm on October 27 after receiving a call from a junior acquaintance named Dip.
When he did not return late at night, his mother repeatedly called him. He told her that he would be home shortly.
At 1:35am, he sent a voice message from his phone to his mother's phone through Messenger, saying, “I have started on my way; I'm coming.”
However, he did not return even by the following afternoon.
At around 5:20pm on October 28, River Police from Uttarkhan informed his father by phone that his son's body had been recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in the Rajabari Ghat-Uttarkhan area.
After the initial autopsy procedures at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, River Police handed over the body to the family at noon on October 29.
Following religious rites, Tahshif was buried that afternoon at a cemetery in Sector 12 of Uttara.
