Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today urged Japanese investors and financial institutions to explore opportunities in Bangladesh and partner in the nation's next phase of economic growth.
The Prime Minister made the call during a joint press announcement at the Japanese Prime Minister’s Office (Kantei) following high-level bilateral talks with Japanese Premier Sanae Takaichi.
"The partnership between Bangladesh and Japan is built on decades of trust and mutual respect. Today we have an opportunity to take this relationship to new heights," PM Tarique Rahman said also inviting Japanese businesses to pursue productive investments, technology transfer and joint ventures.
During the summit both leaders agreed to expand bilateral cooperation across key sectors including energy, ICT, railways, infrastructure, deep-sea ports and foreign direct investment. Several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between the two nations.
Recalling Japan’s historic role as one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh after its 1971 independence, the Prime Minister praised Japan as a vital development partner that has contributed significantly to Bangladesh's socio-economic progress for over three decades.
Premier Takaichi welcomed PM Tarique Rahman at the Kantei, where he received a guard of honor prior to their delegation-level discussions.
The Prime Minister arrived in Tokyo on Monday for a four-day official visit. On his first day, he met with senior Japanese officials, including former Prime Minister Taro Aso, Marubeni Corporation Chairman Masumi Kakinoki and JICA President Dr. Akihiko Tanaka. This marks his third official foreign trip since assuming office in February.
