Police May Resort to Crossfire if Government Approves: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has said police would not hesitate to resort to crossfire if the government authorises such action.

He made the remarks on Monday, October 26, at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Community Islamic Bank System’ in Chawkbazar.

“Police are necessary for people to live in peace and security,” the IGP said, adding that freedom does not mean people can do whatever they want.

Urging people not to take the law into their own hands, Ali Hossain Fakir also said it was inappropriate to blame the police for every incident.

The police chief also raised concerns about the spread of drugs in neighbourhoods and alleged that some police personnel, alongside members of the ousted Awami League, were involved in the drug trade.

He said 27 police personnel had been suspended over the past two months.
