Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called on Japan to expand its investment in Bangladesh’s high-growth sectors including Information and Communication Technology (ICT), renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.
Speaking at a meeting in Tokyo with Masumi Kakinoki, Chairman of Marubeni Corporation and the Japan-Bangladesh Committee for Commercial and Economic Cooperation (JBCCEC), the Prime Minister highlighted significant potential through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).
Prime Minister Rahman reassured Japanese business leaders of Bangladesh’s commitment to an investor-friendly environment, citing ongoing regulatory reforms and streamlined approval procedures. He also sought Japanese technical and financial support to modernize the Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), evaluate the feasibility of a second fertilizer plant and accelerate development at the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ).
In response, Kakinoki expressed confidence that the proposed Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) would boost bilateral trade and unlock fresh investment streams. The meeting was attended by senior cabinet ministers, economic advisors and Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman also following up on preliminary talks held with Marubeni leadership in Dhaka earlier this month.
Prime Minister Rahman arrived in Tokyo on Monday morning for a four-day state visit leading a high-level delegation to strengthen economic, industrial and diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Japan.
