Michael Carrick admitted he is "carrying on as normal" following Manchester United's 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth though his position as manager appears increasingly fragile.
The loss leaves United 16th in the Premier League table with just seven points from eight games their worst start since the 1986–87 season and only one point above the relegation zone.
United have won just twice in 12 matches across all competitions this season with keeping a single clean sheet against Azerbaijani side Sabah. At Old Trafford the fans unfurled a banner demanding higher standards and cheered Carrick personally but booed the team off the pitch. Former player Ashley Young noted that the squad looked as though they had given up.
Carrick's decision to drop captain Bruno Fernandes after recent tactical criticism added to the pre-match tension. On the field, defensive blunders and lack of structure proved costly also capped by goalkeeper Senne Lammens misjudging a long ball to gift Evanilson Bournemouth's third goal.
While captain Harry Maguire insisted the squad supports Carrick, pundits suggest his departure may be imminent. Meanwhile the Bournemouth's fourth consecutive victory across all competitions moved them up to 13th place.
