A wave of Russian ballistic missiles struck Ukraine’s capital overnight on October 26–27 with killing at least one person and injuring 10 others as local officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The strikes targeted a university campus, residential buildings, medical centers and a major transit bridge. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that nine people were hospitalized with most of the injured being university students. Emergency responders found one victim dead inside a partially destroyed commercial building in the Dniprovskyi district.
Ukraine’s Air Force issued warnings shortly before two separate missile waves hit the city—first around 9:45 p.m. and again at 3:30 a.m. The blasts damaged two medical facilities, shattering windows in an intensive care unit and disrupted Kyiv’s Southern Bridge, a key traffic link across the Dnipro River.
The attack comes amid a severe shortage of air defense systems in Ukraine which Moscow has repeatedly exploited by launching mass aerial strikes against urban centers. Casualties were also reported in Kharkiv and Pavlohrad despite a localized ceasefire near the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack and called on Western allies to expedite air defense deliveries.
"When strikes target cities directly the artificial delays in providing air defense to Ukraine help terror" Zelensky said.
The overnight bombardment follows previous deadly missile strikes on Kyiv earlier this month as Russia continues to target civilian infrastructure across the country.
