A new shipment of uranium nuclear fuel arrived at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna on Tuesday morning under a high-security protocol. This delivery marks the third shipment intended for the project's second unit.
The heavy security convoy carrying the nuclear material departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 2:30 AM and arrived at the project site at approximately 8:00 AM.
Army personnel, the Special Security Force (SSF) and police escorted the shipment along the highway to ensure safe passage. Local authorities regulated public movement and vehicular traffic along the route across multiple districts as a safety precaution.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asadur Rahman confirmed that the shipment reached the plant safely without incident.
According to project officials, a total of nine fuel shipments are scheduled to arrive—seven for the second unit and two for refueling the first unit. Deliveries are expected to be completed by December.
Engineers at the site stated that if technical preparations remain on schedule the Bangladesh’s first nuclear power facility could begin supplying 200 to 300 megawatts of electricity to the national grid on a trial basis by December this year.
