The installation of Automatic Control System (APCS) in the first and second units of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna has been completed.
In addition, Rooppur is Rosatom's first project outside Russia where the Operator Information Support System (OISS) is being implemented. Russia's state nuclear agency Rosatom announced this in a press release on Tuesday (October 13) afternoon.
The system, supplied by Automated Control Systems (RASU) of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, consists of nearly 20,000 instruments under 43 systems. These will monitor more than 7,000 process-related parameters, including reactor stability, to support the safe and efficient operation of the power plant.
Another important part of the system is the Operator Information Support System (OISS). RASU has developed it using the power unit's digital twin technology. The system has already been connected to the first unit and is participating in the startup process. A similar system will be installed in the second unit.
AICS analyzes data from 360 process-related systems, identifies potential deviations, and provides necessary advice to operators based on more than 80 guidelines, including instructions for what to do in emergency situations.
By presenting complex operational information in a simple way, it helps operators make informed decisions and deal with situations more effectively.
"The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is not only the largest cooperation project between Russia and Bangladesh, but also one of our leading projects in the use of modern automation and control technologies. This is the first time that an operator information support system is being implemented at a power plant built by Rosatom abroad," said Alexei Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom.
He added that this system will reduce response time to deal with situations, reduce operational costs, and serve as a reliable assistant for control room staff.
Incidentally, Rosatom's engineering division, Atomstroyexport, is implementing the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, which is under construction with two VVER-1200 reactors of Generation 3+ technology.
