The administration of Kalia Upazila in Narail has completed preparations for collecting household information under the government’s Family Card programme, with data collection planned for around 65,000 households across the upazila.
An informational press conference on the programme’s preparations, implementation process and field-level activities was held at 3pm on Monday (October 12) in the Kalia Upazila Parishad conference room. The event was jointly organised by the upazila administration and the Upazila Social Services Office.
Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Zinnatul Islam chaired the event. Participants emphasised the importance of transparency, accuracy and coordination in collecting household data.
Upazila Social Services Officer Rafiqul, Upazila Academic Supervisor M M Sarafat Hossain and journalists from local print and electronic media attended the press conference.
Officials said household-based data collection would be conducted in phases across Kalia’s 14 unions and one municipality under the Family Card programme. The recruitment and training processes for field enumerators and supervisors have been completed.
According to the upazila administration, 97 volunteers have been assigned primary responsibilities for the census, including 88 enumerators and nine supervisors. An additional 10 volunteers—nine enumerators and one supervisor—have been kept in reserve for emergencies. In total, 107 volunteers are prepared to support the operation.
The first phase will begin in Ward No. 1 of three unions: Khasial, Baiosona and Purulia. Data collection will subsequently be expanded to the remaining unions and the municipality in stages. Kalia has approximately 65,000 households. Officials stressed that enumerators and supervisors must work in coordination to ensure that information is collected and verified accurately.
The press conference outlined the data collection process, the allocation of field responsibilities, monitoring arrangements and other implementation-related issues. Participants also discussed the role of the media in raising public awareness and disseminating accurate information about the programme. Officials said cooperation among the administration, field personnel and local residents would be essential to successfully complete data collection under the Family Card programme.
The press conference also focused on ensuring that field operations are conducted smoothly and that the information gathered is accurate.
