Iran is currently reviewing new United States proposals for negotiations through ongoing indirect messages facilitated by regional mediators Pakistan and Qatar, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei announced on Monday.
"The exchange of messages between Iran and the US through mediators continues," Baqaei told a weekly press briefing in Tehran. "We are reviewing the Americans’ proposals for negotiations. Iran’s preconditions must be observed for any negotiations."
Baqaei acknowledged Russia’s constructive diplomatic role regarding Iran’s nuclear dossier but clarified that direct diplomatic messaging between Washington and Tehran is primarily handled by Pakistan and Qatar.
Addressing regional security, Baqaei stated that recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz stem directly from US and Israeli military actions against Iran also warning that regional security cannot be restored under current Washington policies. He dismissed US claims that Tehran has lost its strategic leverage pointing to reactions in global energy markets.
Additionally Esmaeil Baqaei expressed deep concern over tensions on the Arab Peninsula, reiterating Iran's readiness to help facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement to achieve a peaceful settlement.
