A high-security convoy transporting uranium fuel for the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant reached the project site on Saturday under heavy military escort.
The three-lorry convoy arrived at Rooppur at 12:20 PM after departing Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 7:15 AM. Army personnel, alongside members of the Police, Special Branch and intelligence agencies, provided comprehensive security throughout the journey.
The nuclear fuel consignment landed at Dhaka airport on a cargo flight at 11:30 PM on Friday. Officials from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) received the shipment before handing it over for transport.
This delivery is part of a planned nuclear fuel supply schedule for the facility. According to official plans, nine more shipments will bring 48 additional fuel assemblies for Unit 1 and 163 assemblies for Unit 2 between November and December. The air route for these shipments originates in Russia and passes through Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India before reaching Bangladesh.
