Tarique Rahman First Chattogram Visit as Prime Minister on Sunday

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Chattogram for the first time since taking office with touring Maheshkhali, Bashkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari on Sunday, August 9. The administration and local BNP have made extensive preparations for the one-day visit.

According to the schedule, Tarique Rahman will arrive in Maheshkhali at 9 am to inspect the Matarbari Deep Sea Port, coal-fired power project and Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority. Around noon, he will travel by helicopter to Bashkhali's Baharchhara area to join a flood rehabilitation program, distributing relief and handing over house keys to 100 homeless families, prioritizing those whose homes were destroyed or damaged in recent floods.

He will then visit Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari for a courtesy call on Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari, exchanging views with around 50 organizational leaders. Hefazat-e-Islam described the meeting as non-political to fulfilling a promise made during his oath-taking.

Next, he will visit Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Mainul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari to pay respects at the grave of the late Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi, before attending a rehabilitation program at Hathazari Government College grounds, where 30 flood-affected families will receive Tk 1 lakh each for house construction and 15 disabled people will get Tk 10,000 each.

The day will conclude with an organizational meeting of Chattogram BNP at a five-star hotel, attended by roughly 550-600 grassroots leaders from the city, north and south district BNP and 11 affiliated organizations.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah confirmed security arrangements are in place with law enforcement agencies. Tarique Rahman previously visited Chattogram in January for a pre-election rally and in 2005 for a party program. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka at 9:20 pm.
