Two Children Drown in Monohardi, Narsingdi

Two children drowned in a roadside pond in Monohardi, Narsingdi. The deceased were identified as Tawheed (7) and Nabil (6). They were cousins.

The incident occurred on Friday around 4:00 PM in Noadia village under Ekduaria Union of the upazila.

The deceased Nabil was the son of Bazlur Rahman of Noadia village in Ekduaria Union, Monohardi Upazila. Tawheed was the son of Md. Mahbubur Rahman of Bailab village in Chakradha Union, Shibpur Upazila.

According to family members and local sources, Nabil and Tawheed had gone out for a walk on the road in the Noadia area in the afternoon. At one point, Nabil fell into a pond beside the deserted road. While trying to pull him out, Tawheed also drowned in the pond.

After some time, when the body of one child floated to the surface, locals tried to rescue him. At that time, they saw the other child’s hand held by him. Locals then rescued the second child from under the water as well. Later, both children were taken to the nearby Shibpur Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared them dead.

Jahangir Badsha, Officer-in-Charge of Monohardi Police Station said “At the request of the family members of the deceased children, the bodies have been handed over without an autopsy.”
