Trilateral Defense Pact Will Contribute to Security and Countering Terrorism: Erdogan

The trilateral defense agreement signed between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan will contribute to security and the fight against terrorism, stated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He added that the Mecca Joint Defense Pact is established on the foundation of collective deterrence.

The information was reported by Anadolu Agency in a report on Saturday (August 8).

In a post on his social media account, Erdogan stated that this defense treaty, which also upholds the right to self-defense as defined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, is not aimed at any specific country. He noted that it remains open to the participation of all brotherly nations aiming for peace, prosperity, and stability in the region.

He further added that, in line with the vision of regional ownership, Türkiye will firmly maintain its principled stance on resolving conflicts and crises through dialogue and diplomacy based on respect for international law. He prayed that the visit, discussions, and the signed agreement would bring blessings to the entire region.

It is worth noting that the trilateral defense pact among Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan was signed during a conference held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Friday (August 7). Under the agreement, an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three.
