Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has emphasized communal harmony with stating that there is no division between "minority" and "majority" in Bangladesh as every citizen shares a single identity as a Bangladeshi.
Speaking on Monday during a visit to a Durga Puja pavilion in Mandari, located in Lakshmipur’s Chandragonj Upazila, Anee stressed that members of all religious communities including Hindus, Buddhists and Christians must work together for national development.
"Late President Ziaur Rahman established the foundation of Bangladeshi nationalism" Anee remarked. "Our primary identity is that we are all Bangladeshis. Regardless of religion, caste or ethnicity and everyone must remain united in the nation's interest."
He noted that people of diverse faiths have coexisted peacefully in Bangladesh for generations and called for continued goodwill and harmony to drive the country forward.
During his visit the minister inspected security and overall arrangements at several puja venues across Chandragonj. He was accompanied by Chandragonj Upazila Executive Officer Nilufa Yasmin Nipa, Lakshmipur District Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council leader Shankar Majumdar and local community leaders.
