Master Plan Announced to Protect St. Martin’s Island

The Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change will implement a comprehensive master plan to protect the biodiversity and delicate ecosystem of St. Martin's Island.

State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam announced the initiative while inaugurating a tree plantation drive at the St. Martin Coast Guard Station on Saturday.

"We have received recommendations from the interim government to prioritize the island’s environmental protection and we must implement this collaboratively" he told journalists.

The State Minister emphasized that local residents are integral to the island's survival. Acknowledging the daily adversities they face he praised their deep affection for and dedication to nurturing the unique ecosystem.

“St. Martin is a vital source of our country's natural resources” he said. "While it is our responsibility to ensure the fundamental rights of the people and protect nature, preserving the island's cleanliness is a moral duty for everyone, not just the government."

He highlighted that local participation is crucial in combating climate change and removing plastic pollution. He urged citizens to not only plant saplings but to ensure their long-term care and survival.

"The government residents development partners and all stakeholders must work hand-in-hand to keep St. Martin clean green safe and sustainable" he concluded.
