The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent theory exams have ended across Bangladesh, except under the Chattogram education board with results expected by early November.

The final written papers covering finance, banking and insurance paper II, child development paper II, sociology paper II, social work paper II and sports paper II were held Saturday under nine general education boards. The Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board held its Alim higher mathematics paper II the same day while HSC Vocational and BMT exams under the Technical Education Board had concluded earlier.

This year's exams began on July 2 with 1.27 million students registered. For the first time all boards used identical question papers nationwide.

The Chattogram board's exams, however will continue until September 9 after being postponed due to flooding which halted exams from July 8 to 26 across Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Rangamati and Cox's Bazar.

The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has set an early November target for publishing results nationwide. Committee and Dhaka board Chairman Prof Syed Aktaruzzaman said results typically follow within 60 working days of exams ending. "Since Chattogram's exams end September 9 and results will be published together nationwide, we expect that to fall in the first half of November" he told.

This year's exams faced controversies, including alleged errors in physics, chemistry and biology questions, wrong-year or wrong-set papers at some centres and evaluation irregularities. A Technical Education Board teacher was suspended over alleged negligence in grading HSC BMT scripts.
