Metro rail operations, which were suspended following the fatal fall of a bearing pad near Dhaka's Farmgate station this afternoon, are set to resume only on the Uttara-Agargaon section "as early as possible," confirmed Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan.

The suspension was enacted immediately as a safety measure after a pedestrian died around 12:30 pm when the bearing pad fell on him, according to police and Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).

However, the Agargaon-Motijheel section is unlikely to resume service today, said DMTCL Managing Director Faruk Ahmed.

A large crane reached the spot around 3:00 pm to begin the re-installation of the bearing pad to facilitate the resumption of operations.
