Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has resumed production after seven days of shutdown. Unit No. 1 of the thermal power plant was commissioned from 2 pm on Sunday. The matter was confirmed by Abu Bakkar Siddique, Chief Engineer of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant.
Prior to this, the production of Unit No. 1 was stopped on the night of October 19 due to a mechanical fault. In addition, the power generation of Unit No. 3 has been stopped since October 16. Unit No. 2 has been closed since 2020. As a result, the power generation of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant was completely stopped due to the closure of Unit No. 1 on October 19.
The thermal power plant has resumed partial production with the commissioning of Unit No. 1 on Sunday. Abu Bakkar Siddique, Chief Engineer of the thermal power plant, said that discussions are underway with the Chinese company that manufactures the units. Preparations were made to start unit number 3. But there are still several problems. As a result, maximum efforts are being made to solve the problems of this unit. He said that it may take three months to start the unit.
Chief Engineer Abu Bakkar Siddique said that unit number 1 of the thermal power plant with a capacity of 125 MW is producing 50 MW.
It has been reported that the power generation capacity of the three units of the Barapukuria thermal power plant is 525 MW. Of these, units number 1 and 2 have a capacity of 125 MW each, 250 MW, and unit number 3 has a capacity of 275 MW. But 525 MW of electricity was never produced simultaneously, instead of 125 MW, 60-70 and instead of 275 MW, 160 to 175 were produced. As a result, although the thermal power plant is officially 525 MW, 525 MW of electricity was never produced simultaneously.
