The Sirajganj Interest Protection Forum has formed a human chain and submitted a memorandum in protest against the conspiracy to change the name of Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Medical College and Hospital in Sirajganj, fill up vacant posts, create necessary posts, recruit sufficient manpower and transfer cath-lab machines.

The human chain was held at the Sirajganj Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Medical College and Hospital campus at 11 am on Sunday (October 26).

The speakers in the human chain said, Sirajganj district is one of the most river erosion-prone areas in Bangladesh. Every year, numerous families in this district lose their homes, land and sources of livelihood due to river erosion and become destitute.

The common people of such a district cannot get treatment in private hospitals due to poverty, so the government hospital is their only hope. But it is very sad that despite having a government medical college and hospital in Sirajganj, the common people of the district are being deprived of proper medical services due to shortage of necessary manpower and various administrative complications.

We, the Sirajganj District Interest Protection Forum, have noticed that despite the huge infrastructure of Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Medical College and Hospital, numerous posts have been lying vacant for a long time. There is not enough manpower in the emergency department, outpatient department and medicine department. A conspiracy is going on to transfer a modern cath-lab machine worth about 200 crore taka, which is used in important treatments like angiography and ring placement for heart patients, to Dhaka through an unscrupulous group without putting it into operation. If this machine is removed from Sirajganj, then the poor heart patients of this region will practically die without being able to go to the capital for expensive treatment, which is completely unacceptable from a human and social perspective.

During this time, they mentioned four demands including the immediate change of name of Sirajganj Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Medical College and Hospital, filling all vacancies quickly, creating new necessary posts in the emergency department, outpatient department and medicine department and appointing adequate manpower, and immediately stopping any conspiracy to transfer the existing machine by starting the cath-lab department.

During this time, Dr. MA Latif, President of Sirajganj District DAB and Convener of Sirajganj Swarthraksha Forum, Dr. M Murad, Assistant Professor of the Surgical Department of Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Medical College, District BNP Organizing Secretary Mirza Mostafa Zaman, District BNP Student Affairs Secretary Khorshed Alam Mintu, District BNP Deputy Publicity Secretary Jinnah Sardar and others spoke.

Later, on behalf of people from all walks of life and professions of Sirajganj district, he strongly demanded the government and the concerned authorities to implement the above demands quickly in the interest of people's lives and healthcare.
