Police have arrested a 55-year-old man, Abdus Salam, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old mentally disabled girl in Santhia upazila, Pabna. A Pabna court sent him to jail on Monday (June 22) afternoon following his arrest on Sunday night.
Both the victim and the accused are residents of Haludghar village in Dhopadah union. Salam is the son of the late Khorshed Alam.
According to the case file and the victim's family, the girl was home alone after her mother traveled to Dhaka for medical treatment on June 16. Taking advantage of the situation, Salam allegedly lured the girl to his house around 4:00 pm the following day with the promise of giving her fruit (jaam). He then raped her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
When her mother returned home on Saturday (June 20), the girl informed her about the assault. The mother officially filed a case at the local police station on Sunday, leading to a police raid and Salam's arrest from his home that same night.
Santhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman confirmed the details, stating that the accused was promptly arrested upon the filing of the case and forwarded to the Pabna court.
