A truck helper was killed and three others were seriously injured in a collision between a Shyamoli Paribahan passenger bus and a cargo truck in Bheramara, Kushtia, on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 22, son of Suruj Ali from Sariakandi in Bogura.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred in the Dashmile (10 Mile) area on the Kushtia-Bheramara highway. A Kushtia-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus collided with a truck loaded with jute sacks heading toward the Lalon Shah Bridge. Witnesses report that the truck's front tire burst, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the oncoming bus.
Monir died on the spot. The three injured victims were rescued and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The collision caused significant traffic disruption on the highway before Bheramara police arrived to clear the road.
Local residents expressed frustration over frequent accidents in the Dashmile area, noting a lack of visible preventive measures to improve road safety.
Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Jahedur Rahman stated, "Upon receiving the news, our team immediately reached the scene to manage the traffic jam and informed the Highway Police."
Sheikh Sekender Ali, OC of Kushtia Chaudhary Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident. "The truck helper died on the spot. We will hand the body over to his family and take necessary legal action," he said.
