England's innings was brought to a close at 223 in the first One-Day International against New Zealand, following a spectacular century from Harry Brook.
The tourists had suffered a disastrous start after being sent in at Bay Oval, slumping to 10-4 and eventually 56-6, primarily due to the pace and movement of seamer Zakary Foulkes (4-41). Brook, however, fought back with a breathtaking, career-best 135 off 101 balls, featuring 11 sixes. He found brief support from Jamie Overton, who scored a career-best 46 in an 87-run partnership.
Brook's dismissal to Mitchell Santner ended the innings in the 36th over. Matt Henry (2-53) claimed the first wicket of Jamie Smith from the opening ball. The remaining matches of the series are scheduled for Wednesday in Hamilton and Saturday in Wellington.
