Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Chandpur on May 16 and Feni on May 25 to inaugurate local canal excavation projects ahead of the monsoon season.

Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee announced the schedule today following a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting, held at 10:00 AM at the Cabinet Division, focused on national water resource management.

Minister Anee informed journalists that technical surveys and feasibility studies for the Padma Barrage Project are nearing completion. "The government will make a final decision on the project shortly," he stated.

A key highlight of the upcoming district visits is the inauguration of canal excavation works. The Minister emphasized that the Prime Minister is prioritizing this initiative during his nationwide tours.

"The government has launched a massive initiative to excavate 20,000 kilometers of canals over the next five years," Anee said. "While the monsoon may pause work after May, the program will resume in full force from November through January."

Ministers and lawmakers have been instructed to oversee the excavation projects in their respective constituencies to ensure better water management and agricultural support.
