The arrests and recoveries were confirmed by DB OC Iqbal Bahar following a raid based on a police case.

The District Detective Branch (DB) has arrested seven members of an organized gang, including the ringleader for snatching easy-bikes and auto-rickshaws by posing as police officers and journalists.

During the operation, detectives recovered four stolen e-rickshaws, two walkie-talkies, a private car, and six mobile phones.

DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iqbal Bahar stated the arrests followed a case filed at Bogura Sadar Police Station on May 5, 2026.

According to the case statement, on April 25, an e-rickshaw driver transported a passenger to TMSS Hospital. Upon arrival, a man approached him, claiming to be a plainclothes police officer. The suspect flashed a wireless set and ordered the driver to collect documents from a nearby microbus. When the driver returned, both his vehicle and the passenger had vanished.

Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud, DB police launched a coordinated probe. Acting on a tip-off, a team raided a residential hotel in Bogura’s Charmatha area early Tuesday, arresting five suspects.

Following their interrogation, police conducted a second raid in the Haragachh area of Rangpur, arresting two more individuals involved in trading stolen vehicles. The stolen e-rickshaws were recovered from a shop in Rangpur.

Police confirmed that several of the arrestees are habitual offenders with previous records of theft and robbery. All seven suspects have been produced before the court.
