After a long period of uncertainty, a federal court in the country has ordered the registration process for the United States Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Lottery 2027 to begin.
According to the court's instructions, the US State Department must begin accepting applications by November 1. Before that, it must publish a detailed application schedule by October 29. News Forbes California federal court judge Jinsuke Ohta made the order on Monday (October 19) in a lawsuit filed over the failure to start DV lottery registration on time. The lawsuit names the US State Department and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as defendants. According to the court order, the DV lottery notification must be published by October 29. The date for launching the designated portal for applications has been set for November 1. The registration process will be open for at least 30 days. In addition, the deadline for giving notice of selected applicants has also been set for December 3. Application process and qualifications The DV Lottery is a program for obtaining permanent residence in the United States. If selected, applicants can apply for an immigrant visa subject to meeting the specified conditions. However, just because a name is selected in the lottery does not guarantee a visa or green card. The relevant process, including verification of necessary documents, determination of eligibility and security screening, must be completed. As a general rule, applicants must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. As an alternative, a period of work experience in a qualifying occupation may be acceptable. A job offer from a U.S. employer is generally not required to apply for this program. Can Bangladeshis apply? Official guidance from the US State Department will be awaited to confirm whether Bangladeshi-born individuals will be able to apply for the DV Lottery 2027. Although the deadline for registration has been set by the court order, it is important to confirm Bangladesh's eligibility separately. The US State Department has advised applicants to follow official announcements from the US government. The department has also warned against individuals or organizations claiming to be selected in the lottery and demanding money. It has also emphasized following the instructions published on the US State Department website for the latest information on the application opening date, list of eligible countries, and application procedures. It is worth noting that in December 2025, the US State Department temporarily suspended the DV Lottery (Green Card Lottery) program globally to strengthen national security screening.
