The Indian Assistant High Commission has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of operations at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Chattogram. The closure, effective from today (Sunday, December 21), follows rising concerns regarding the local security situation.
According to an official statement posted on the IVAC website, the decision to halt operations was necessitated by the "prevailing security situation." This move impacts hundreds of applicants in the port city who rely on the center for travel, medical, and business visas to India.
All previously scheduled visa appointments are now on hold. The authorities have clarified that new dates for visa interviews and submissions will be communicated to applicants at a later time.
There is currently no confirmed date for the resumption of services; the center will remain closed "until further notice."
The closure comes amid a broader context of public unrest and security challenges in the region, prompting diplomatic missions to prioritize the safety of both staff and visitors.
