Rejecting allegations that his party claims to "sell tickets to Paradise" Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman clarified on Tuesday that the party's mission is simply to guide people toward the righteous path.
Addressing a gathering of former associates and members at the GEC Convention Hall in Chattogram, Dr. Shafiqur reflected on the historical oppression, political persecution, and legal harassment faced by party activists. He urged members of Jamaat and its student wing, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir to remain steadfastly dedicated to their organizational principles.
Commenting on national politics, the Jamaat chief noted that while the July 2024 mass uprising initiated a pivotal shift in the country, its full objectives have yet to be fully realized. Referring to past national elections, he stated that while the party accepted previous election results for the sake of national stability, such compromises would not continue in future polls.
The convention drew between 2,000 and 2,500 delegates and key leaders including Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Shahjahan and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury.
Following the conference Dr. Shafiqur met with student representatives from the Chattogram University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) later in the afternoon.
