A dispute has emerged over a DCR-allocated piece of land in Midhaban village under Maharajpur Union of Muksudpur Upazila. Local residents alleged that attempts are being made to evict a helpless family that has been living on the land for many years.

According to local sources, a total of 51 decimals of land under Plot No. 234 of SA Khatian No. 581, JL No. 101 of Midhaban Mouza was originally recorded. Among this land, 25 decimals were recorded in the name of Dalil Uddin Karikor, son of Ratan Karikor. The remaining 26 decimals were recorded in the names of Upendra Chandra Kundu and others from the local Hindu community.

Later, in the BRS record under Khatian No. 215 and Plot No. 450, 20 decimals out of Dalil Uddin Karikor’s 25 decimals were recorded in the names of his two sons, Abdul Karim Karikor and Abdul Halim Karikor. The remaining 5 decimals were reportedly recorded as government road land.

Locals stated that before the Liberation War, Ismail Sheikh, son of Sadan Sheikh of Midhaban village, purchased the recorded 26 decimals of land belonging to Upendra Chandra Kundu and others through a deed agreement. Subsequently, 8 decimals of land were recorded in Ismail Sheikh’s name during the BRS survey. The remaining 12 decimals were later allocated through DCR in the name of Ashraf Ali Mia of the same village.

Residents of the area claimed that Ashraf Ali Mia never took possession of the land. Instead, Ismail Sheikh had been occupying and using the additional 12 decimals along with his own recorded land for many years.

After the death of Ismail Sheikh in 2004, the DCR was reportedly transferred by the land office to his middle son, Siddiq Sheikh. Since then, Siddiq Sheikh and his family have been residing on and possessing the land continuously.

However, the matter took a new turn recently. On April 26, 2026, Abul Hossain Karikor, son of Karim Karikor from the same village, submitted an application to the Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Office claiming ownership of the DCR land.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, a peach tree inside the homestead reportedly fell onto the house during a storm. Siddiq Sheikh later cut down the damaged tree. Local elders said the tree had only minimal market value. They also mentioned that several other trees from the DCR land had previously been cut down by the former DCR holder.

When contacted, Maharajpur Union Land Officer Md. Imarat Hossain said that the 12 decimals of land had initially been allocated through DCR in the name of Ashraf Ali Mia. Later, in 2024, the DCR was officially transferred to Md. Siddiq Sheikh through the union land office. He further confirmed that Siddiq Sheikh is currently in possession of the land.
