The body of 11-year-old Seema, who had been missing for two days, was recovered from the Madhumoti river in Lohagara upazila on Tuesday morning.
Seema, described by family as mentally challenged, disappeared on Sunday afternoon while bathing in the river near the Ghagha Notunpara area with her grandmother. Despite an extensive search operation by local residents, the Fire Service, and a specialist diving team from Khulna, she could not be located at the time.
Locals eventually spotted her body on Tuesday morning near the Ichakhali char in Kashiani upazila. Family members arrived at the scene shortly after to identify and claim the body.
Seema was the daughter of Kala Chand Sheikh of Itna village but had been residing at her grandmother's house in Ghagha Notunpara. The tragic incident has cast a deep shroud of mourning over the local community.
