


An intellectually disabled teenage girl went missing after drowning in the Madhumoti River while bathing in Lohagara upazila of Narail.
The incident took place around 3:00 pm on Sunday (May 10) in the Notunpara area of Ghagha village under Kotakol union.
The missing girl, Seema Khanam (14), was the daughter of Kala Chand Sheikh of nearby Itna village. She had been living at her grandmother’s house in Notunpara.
Sheikh Shah Alam, member of Ward No. 2 of Kotakol Union Parishad, confirmed the incident.
According to local sources, Seema went to bathe in the river with her grandmother. During bathing, she was swept away by the strong current and went missing. Family members and local residents searched the area but could not locate her.
After being informed, a team from Lohagara Fire Service, led by Station Officer Sohag Uzzaman, visited the scene.
Sohag Uzzaman said the Khulna Fire Service diving unit was later informed, and a diving team began rescue operations on Monday morning. However, the girl had not been found at the time this report was filed.
